William R. Breidenbach ’69 believes in supporting the organizations that have made him into the person he is today, which is why he has named Worcester Academy as a beneficiary of his will.
As it has done for countless graduates since 1834, Worcester Academy pushed Bill to think in new ways. In particular, he recalls how former Headmaster and Instructor John Bloom’s lectures encouraged him to learn through investigation.
“John Bloom was more interested in the questions that were created than the answers,” says Bill, who went on to study fine arts and economics at Ohio Wesleyan University before launching a more-than-30-year career as an executive and entrepreneur.
Naming the Academy as a beneficiary in his estate plan was easy, Bill says, noting it also “ensures that you have enough money available to you if you need it in your lifetime, but you can continue to support your favorite cause after you’ve passed.”
“It is not necessary to make the commitment at once,” he says. “You can decide to put something in your estate plan now and revisit your intentions again in the future to see how it can be modified.”
Bill has remained active with WA over the years, including serving on the Board of Trustees, as a member of the Alumni Association, and as host to alumni events in Florida. He says now is the time for fellow alumni to join him in ensuring future Hilltoppers can continue to “achieve the honorable.”
