Organizing a twenty-fifth reunion doesn’t usually lead to a job, but that’s exactly what happened to Frank Callahan ’71—Worcester Academy’s school historian who recently retired after 24 years as the school’s director of planned giving—and in gratitude he has made a bequest to leave his legacy at WA.
“A planned gift allows me to make the largest gift possible,” says Frank, who helped many donors create significant planned gifts during his time working at WA.
Frank is a lifelong resident of Worcester. He played soccer his junior and senior years at WA and was proud to participate in former Head of School John Bloom’s Urban Affairs program—which is similar to the current graduation project. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Massachusetts.
Frank attended every academy reunion and volunteered to organize the twenty-fifth. Working closely with the school led to his being offered a job, and he helped grow the 1834 Society (WA’s legacy society) now over 100 current members.
“Planned gifts are a great way to honor the school,” Frank says. “I am proud to be the school historian and proud to have attended Worcester Academy.”
